Cockpit Teak Deck

Updated 2006-03-11

When we bought Web Commander she had a standard glassfiber deck in the cockpit. Over the years the deck had become very worn. Previous owners evidently tried to touch up the looks by painting the deck white. Apart from the fact that the paint eventually started to wear off, the anti-skid pattern was more or less filled with paint. Finally one of the engine hatches showed signs of cracks.

A simple repaint was not the solution. Instead we decided to let Wasa Yacht's fine carpenters make a new teak deck on top of the existing deck. It turned out beautifully and has really added to the atmosphere in the cockpit. Very nice to put your feet on as well!

The teak deck was fastned to the original deck by screws and Sikkaflex. We are now moving into the 8th season and still no leaks!
